4OD wanted a humorous and character-driven campaign that highlighted the 25-year anniversary offer of free downloads of classic shows. By creating the geek and his world of VHS tapes we were able to simultaneously highlight the classic Channel 4 moments available to download and the ease with which they can now be accessed. As the campaign appealed largely to a generation grown up on setting the video recorder, both the geek and his mishaps have very strong and immediate recognition.
