Background
It’s an emotional piece of work, and that’s exactly what SiriusXM is going for.
The beats and (at times frenetic) movements correspond to personal milestones. Taken as a whole, the video offers a spirited reflection on audio's oft-intense interplay with aspirations, emotions and memory.
Thus, SiriusXM casts itself as a sonic companion in harmony with pop culture for every generation.
The film is an ad that’s aimed at further boosting the overall rebrand and streaming app that launched last fall across growing attraction to genres such as country, hip-hop and sport.
Execution
Casting a wide net looking for dancers of all ages, backgrounds, and creeds "because we didn't know who we were trying to cast in the image of,".
It was inconsequential whether the dancers chosen were younger or older. They simply had to be good, and all the rest would be chosen after.Then, Niara Hardister, the third cast member in the film, and Karen McDonald, the last woman to appear, took their turns performing. The cast blew our minds in the way that they moved to music. They express themselves through music in a way that told the story. It was not just dance.
There was also a challenge to finding more dancers that resembled the Black women chosen and that fit the bill to represent other ages and stages of life.
