Background
Being perched at the edge of North America means tourists never wind up here accidentally. Many of them are in search of unique experiences, experiences you won’t find anywhere else. And of course, stories to tell. Out here, they’ll not only find a story around every corner, but they’ll also find somebody to tell it to them. Throughout Canada, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are widely regarded as some of the finest in the craft. A Tangled Tale showcases the province’s innate ability to weave a story from just about anything. Providing travellers with tales of their own, and a unique cultural experience they’ll be telling stories about for years to come.
Execution
A Tangled Tale is a 90-second television commercial that explores one traveller’s motorcycle journey across Newfoundland and Labrador. We follow along as she goes from town to town, discovering the unique ability of locals to tell a story about just about anything, from hypnotizing tales to little ditties about nothing in particular. The poem, a nod to the traditional limericks and recitations of the province’s past, helps convey the kinds of stories — and storytellers — that travellers are likely to meet once they arrive here. And, rest assured, every word they say is true. Especially the bits they make up.
