Description

In 1888 Bertha Benz drove 106km with his husband Carl Benz car, which was the longest distance driven at the time. The feat of this woman established the car as a viable means of transportation creating the world, as we know today.

In tribute to her and those who dream further, we drove the same route. Crossing Germany using a radio-controlled car, one pack of standard household batteries and one charge. This attempt brought us the official Guinness World Record of Greatest distance by a battery powered radio-controlled model car on a single charge.

Execution

It is a radio-controlled car following a standard toy car scale (6:1). It also drives and is controlled in the same fashion, using a model car racing remote control. It is designed to handle an extremely high amount of batteries over a very long distance on uneven terrain. Its main parts are a bespoke lightweight chassis, electrical engine, heat dissipater, speed control unit, voltage safety and a pack of standard rechargeable Duracell batteries. Shock absorbers, transmission and steering set were also bespoke using metal, plastic and carbon fibre.

Outcome

It’s very early to measure results, but the car crossed more than 10 German cities with a population of over a million people. The stunt was viewed by thousands of people on its Guinness world record attempt. Changing perception as a brand that powers household goods to an innovative, future-thinking brand that inspires people to dream further.
