Description

To promote TV program “2014 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships”, we planned special swimming lessons for school children using digital technology. We invited “Ai Shibata”, a gold medalist of free style stroke swimming in Athens 2004 as a coach. Our swimming events were based on these 2 points,

-solid techniques which were lectured by a gold medalist

-entertainment by playing our original swimming game

We customized Microsoft Kinect so that it could detect multiple human skeleton motions simultaneously. Our swimming game encouraged children to learn proper way of free style strokes having fun. That motivated children to go to swimming pool to check the way of swimming and watching “2014 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships” on TV. These are reasons why we entered our work to Promo & Activation.

Outcome

“Air Pan Pacific swimming” was a good opportunity for Children to be familiar with swimming and dream of winning a gold medal. Over 10,000 children played the game in a month and their parents posted on Ai Shibata’s Facebook page. Because the events had been held during a festival “Roppongi Summer Station”, 922,700 passengers walked through the event site. TV Asahi broadcasted these events on the news show and program rating of “2014 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships” rose up to 7.8%.
