Description
Having been awarded Terminal 5’s most important retail site by BAA, Harrods sought to create a spectacular showcase store dedicated purely to international fashion and accessory brands.
75% of T5’s estimated 27 million annual travellers will pass through this “anchor” retail location and the space needed to reflect the overall design and architectural values of the airport itself.
Execution
The design concept integrated a number of innovative environmental, graphic and “sensory” design features, chiefly an 80m store fascia interspersed with a series of LED lights representing a jet stream, and two “fashion domes” studded with over 6,500 LEDs, anchoring the 2 ends of the site. The domes create more intimate, luxurious zones for customers to dwell and immerse themselves.Sleek, white gloss surfaces, evocative use of lighting, and effective balancing of linear and curved interior design elements help to unite this vast space into a holistic experience that manages to be both ‘quintessentially Harrods’ and futuristic all at once.
Outcome
The design approach to this store marks not only a distinct departure from the way Harrods has traditionally approached the presentation of its brand in travel retail, but is also a significant design impression in its own right, incorporating a number of innovative creative elements that deliver a unique luxury fashion showcase.
