OVERVIEW

Description

The commercial transports viewers into a futuristic world where everything is technologically advanced, but the cars are a real anachronism on four wheels. This is because, as the voiceover says: "No world will be truly advanced, if automobile technology goes unchanged.

Execution

For production reasons, all scenes were shot without using blue/green back. This choice facilitated the work of the DOP that could shoot with natural light (or just by adding few extra lights).

In the opening scene, we can see from the big window a matte painting. The external view was added by rotoscoping actors and building the moving shutters in 3D. This because the scene was shot inside a two-floor villa and the bedroom was on the upper floor. There was no balcony. To build a decent green back would have required a lot of work.

In the scenes of the kitchen, we worked in a similar way. The matte painting out of the window was a mix between 2D enviroment and 3D buildings.

We used 3D technique to illuminate objects better and to handle materials and animations simply and easily.

Camera matching and tracking was used in every scene to enrich the enviroment (both inside and outside the house) with 2D and 3D graphics.

The scenes in the streets were filled with cars and people using different layers, each shot specifically for that.

Many scenes 2D and 3D elements and graphics added in them. The city was also extended with a matte painting.

The final scene was taken from a stock footage library and 3D buildings were added in later, as well a 3D smoke and a piece of matte painting projected from the 3D tracking camera.
