In this TV spot, the "800lb gorilla in the room" is used as a metaphor for the thing people want to ignore; their retirement plan. People would rather do anything, even clean their bathroom, than plan for retirement. In our protagonist's quiet, relaxing moment in the steam room, the proverbial 800lb gorilla in the room shows up and gives him a gentle nudge to remind him that he needs to have a plan; an annuity from AXA Equitable can provide guaranteed income for life in retirement.
