Description
The Baxi Project goes farther than the regular wearable technology or smartfabric clothing. It is able to measure the Peripheral Temperature (the temperature of the extremities), the Central Temperature (the temperature of the main body) and the humidity of the body. These measurements and their variations allow the intelligent clothing to perform an estimation of the comfort levels of the person wearing the clothing, and this information can change the performance of the climatization system at home.
Execution
The technology used in The Baxi Project is based on a wearable technology and temperature and humidity sensors. The system has a low power microcontroller which integrates a Bluetooth Low Enerty (BLE) transceiver to increase the battery life of the system. Currently, the microcontroller measures these 5 sensors periodically and they are transmitted to a smartphone which sends these data to a remote server to be processed.
Outcome
The Baxi Project encourages us to think about the future of climatization at home as something with an autonomous performance which depends on the people at home and even on the room where they are. Central heating could be turned on or off depending on the comfort of the residents in a seamless interaction with the climatization system at home, based on several pre-determined settings.
