Background

‘Fear of heights affects 1 in 4 people’ (Brandt & Huppert, 2014)

Being afraid of heights limits many aspects of people’s lives.

But only few are willing to talk about it.

BeFearless is the first virtual reality platform to overcome fears using Samsung Gear VR and mobile.

In 2016, we collaborated with VR developers and psychologists to create a VR program that offers users the chance to experience situations of high altitude.

In increasing levels users are confronted with their fears.

For the first time the app analyses heart rate and eye movement to give instant personalized feedback.

In 2017, BeFearless2.0 returned with more and upgraded scenarios. We created 9 landscapes and cityscapes with 360 cameras to make a sound VR app. More than 5000 people in 10 countries trained themselves with the app to overcome fear of heights.

Execution

Back in 2015, it took 10 months to complete the VR app and undergo clinical test in Korea. Users are confronted with their fears in increasing levels. For the first time, the app analyzes heart rate and eye movements to give instant personalized feedback.

With the history of success on our back, we created 9 different scenarios for BeFearless 2.0. We filmed various landscapes and cityscapes situations with 360 cameras and added computer graphics to make the experience feel real. It was a total makeover of the previous app with more details and better quality. More than 5000 people around the world applied and 50 were selected to train thoroughly with the BeFearless app in guidance. Later 17 were invited to New York to challenge themselves to ride a helicopter.

And once again, we helped millennials overcome their fears.
