Description

The readers of "Auto Motor and Sport" voted as many as four Volkswagen models "Best Car 2001": the Lupo, Polo, Golf, and Sharan all took top position in their respective categories. This success had now to be taken up and communicated effectively on the Volkswagen website. Shortly after the official announcement of the winners, www.volkswagen.de featured a microsite that could be accessed via a baner positioned centrally on the screen. The objective of this page was to set these victories of the Volkswagen models in as an exciting a scene as possible, so leaving a lasting impression on users and strengthening confidence in the VW brand. The four cars emerge out of the darkness to a background of monumental, visionary music; flashing lights accompany the show; and keywords appear ("Volkswagen to the power of four"). The cars are depicted as model-like line drawings, symbols of technical competence and perfection. Roll-over then switches in to transform them into their "true selves" - the line drawing becomes a real car, dynamic and charismatic. Clicking one of these cars opens a new window containing the overall result of this category. Flash 4 was used to realise the technical aspects of this page. The numerous sound, animation, and interactive features that this multimedia tool offers give rise to a dynamic, emotionally appealing appearance.
