Related articles appearing in past issues of the Shizuoka Shimbun were run with introductions of current corporate efforts targeting the themes addressed in those articles. The approach was structured to inspire readers to imagine images of the future. The final page was made to attract readers to the “Blue Piece Project” website, designed with a puzzle motif. Participating readers put puzzle pieces together on-screen to give the Earth its final shape.

Outcome

More than 150,000 hits in 20 days and reader column boxes packed with total of 1,199 pieces. Shizuoka Shimbun subsequently decided to express its gratitude and respect to readers by having all 1,199 contributors’ names appear in the Dec.31 issue. Collaboration with web succeeded to generate a new value of newspaper.
