Description
To celebrate its centenary, BMW built a futuristic vehicle to showcase its vision for the next 100 years of mobility. We were commissioned to present it online.
Given that the majority of website visits come from mobile devices today, a “mobile first” approach was inevitable. But the vision vehicle, packed with futuristic technology concepts, called for a much more immersive and interactive style of presentation than is currently allowed by mobile websites, which only let you display videos via a dedicated player – with no opportunity for interaction.
So we built our very own mobile video player, capable of displaying video directly on a mobile website – overlayed with interactive HTML content.
Execution
We creatively used the ability to load raw movie data blobs into memory and transferred screenshots frame by frame to the canvas to create the illusion of fluid video. We then added standard HTML functionality on top of that.
The outcome: fluid, moving images that people could now interact with – ideal for showcasing the futuristic features of the BMW VISION NEXT 100 vision vehicle.
Users loved it: we captured their attention for nearly 6 minutes on average – on mobile phones!
