In South Africa, Youth Day commemorates the Soweto Uprising of the 16th of June, 1976. But it is also celebrates a new generation that enjoys political freedom, and freedom of language and expression. A Praise Poem is the traditional way of heralding an African leader, but this poem salutes the intellectual independence and individual voices of young South Africans.
