Overview

Background

Breast cancer is the number 1 cause of cancer mortality for Thai women. According to researches, when breast cancer is detected early, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. However, advanced methods of breast examination are not accessible to all Thai women as they are costly and require a visit to an equipped hospital. Therefore, the best and most accessible early detection method is a woman’s own hands. But women are unaware of how a cancerous lump feels, leading to a low rate of detection, with research showing that only 20-30% of Thai women perform breast self-examinations correctly and consistently.

As a leading underwear brand providing high-quality bras to Thai women for almost 30 years, Sabina’s mission is to lift the life-threatening risk of breast cancer off women’s chests by making self-examination easy and more effective, closing the gap in early detection, and eventually saving lives.

Idea

Breast Cancer Simulator Pad, the world’s first bra pad that turns every bra into a breast cancer-detecting simulator. This co-patented innovation between Sabina and its agency utilized medical data from Thanyarak Breast Center, Siriraj Hospital to simulate the touch of cancerous lumps in areas where they are most commonly found.

Women can insert the pad into any bra they own to understand what they should be looking for when performing breast self-examinations. It works seamlessly with any insertable bra and does not affect the functionality or aesthetic of the product.

Every year, Sabina bras touch the breasts of approximately 6 million women in Asia and the Middle East, making it the most directly pivotal touchpoint the brand has with their consumers.

This accessible innovation will close the gap in early breast cancer detection and ensure that as many women fall into the favorable side of the survival ratio as possible.

Strategy

In Thailand, advanced methods of breast examination are not accessible for all, as it is costly and requires going to an equipped hospital. The best and most accessible early detection method is a woman’s own hands. However, in practice women are unaware of how a cancerous lump is supposed to feel like, causing the cancer to still escape detection.

The world’s first Breast Cancer Simulator Pad was developed with Thanyarak Breast Center at Siriraj Hospital, Bangkok, using medical data to simulate the feel of cancerous lumps as they most commonly present in the breast. Women can insert the pad into any bra they own to understand what they should be looking for when performing breast self-examinations.

Every year, Sabina bras touch the breasts of approximately 6 million women in Asia and the Middle East, making it the most directly pivotal touchpoint the brand has with their consumers.
