Our 'Cake' film for Chartered Accountants ANZ is a zoetrope cake that comes to life, telling the story of a cafe growing into a multi-national empire with the help of CA ANZ.

Realising we wanted fine control of the animation steered us towards creating the cake in CG. There followed plenty of studying and sampling of chocolate cakes!

The agency, didn't want any of the animation ideas to be too obvious, so together we dreamed up playful ideas for each tier to represent the cafe's growth. Ideas like Twitter birds dunking heart shaped cookies into icing-filled cups tell the story in a whimsical way.

The zoetrope ‘loop’ format forced us to be clever and succinct with our ideas. And making the cake in CG meant the render times were high but the calorie count stayed low.
