Description

WHISKAS loves cats for their independent spirits and are always looking for new ways to enable owners to provide best possible love and care for their cat.

CatLife is a state-of-the-art collar, equipped with seven sensors, that gives owners accurate information about their cat. Synced to the CatLife Smartphone Application, the technology tracks a cat’s daily activity and provides recommendations to help owners provide best care.

Still in Product Testing, the CatLife collar and smartphone application have been successfully trialed in New Zealand towards a full in-market test from September 2014.

Execution

Following an 8-week Feasibility Phase, Product Development began, working with partners to complete materials exploration and deliver industrial and electronic designs.

Fabrication of the prototypes allowed us to move into the machine-learning phase – mapping data patterns against behaviour. The App was built after an extensive UX process with input from consumer focus groups.

Prototype collars equipped with seven sensors (including accelerometer, GPS, gyroscope and barometer) and a smartphone app have been trialed in an initial Product Test focused on deep engagement & testing with a group of 25 dedicated testers in-field.

Outcome

Still in beta-testing stage, the CatLife collar and smartphone application have been successfully trialed in New Zealand towards a full in-market test from September 2014.

Three weeks into the Product Test, we have collected 12,600 hours of data from the 25-cat collar's taking part. Each collar records a data packet every minute resulting in 756,000 database entries detailing the cat's activity levels and GPS locations. The next stage of our test will involve collation and analysis of the data – one step closer to revealing the secret lives of cats.
