OVERVIEW

Description

The demand for shark's fin soup has grown since the Chinese economy boom. It's a challenge to make people aware of the devastating effects caused by this Asian culture. Many people still believe in false healing powers of shark fins or want to show their wealth consuming this delicacy. Also, protecting these animals is a more difficult job than protecting dolphins, since sharks are often seen as villains. Actually, this is a key species for the maintenance of marine ecosystem and its preservation involves human survival itself. The goal of Sea Shepherd is that sharks start being protected by law.

Execution

The design was conceived to get as close as possible to the actual appearance of a soup can and a sliced shark fin. Various materials were studied during the process. We used resin to make the stamp as an sculpture. This is the best material for playback on non-industrial scale. The can was made of cardboard and metal. The design was developed to cause great impact and pass the information clearly. The message "Stop Shark Finning" is stamped in red, referring to the blood shed in shark killing.

Outcome

The shark stamp is helping to popularize e the cause of killing sharks. More and more people are aware of the importance of preserving this animal to the balance of the marine ecosystem. By sending the Shark Stamp to bloggers engaged in the environmental cause, we managed to popularize the cause on the internet. In 3 weeks more than 2.000 people signed the online petition for moratorium on shark fishing in Brazil.
