Background

Americans are resilient people. Many have experience hardship in one sense or another (physically, mentally, emotionally), but the human spirit is powerful. Faced with the adversity of any kind, we’re able to lift ourselves up from hardship and overcome being the underdog. As the owner of The Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Bank of America, a company who strongly believes in human potential and will, is uniquely positioned to celebrate the resiliency of Americans, using three incredible runners who were able to persevere and triumph against all odds.

Execution

When a rare form of meningitis claimed Brian Reynold's legs at the age of 4, the odds of him ever running again were stacked against him. But his determination never wavered. After a year of running on prosthetics that left his legs beaten and bloody, Brian was finally able to get running blades. From that point on, not only could Brian float pain-free down Chicago’s city streets, he could now compete in a way he'd never thought was possible. 26.2 in Chicago was just the beginning- Brian's strong performance there has inspired him to achieve even more. He now seeks to be the first American amputee to run a marathon in under 3 hours. And he won’t let anything stand in his way.
