Background

PC gamers are gaming on Windows. Chromebooks have a poor gaming reputation because people (rightly) think you can't run AAA (e.g., high-budget, high-profile) games locally on a Chromebook.

But now, Chromebook Plus provides the performance you need to play all the very latest AAA games, no installs or downloads required. To share the news authentically with the gaming community, we knew we would need to feature a top AAA title people cared about.

So we teamed up with our partners at NVIDIA, GeForce NOW and CD Projekt to showcase the gaming experience on Chromebook Plus. Developers, artists, copywriters, producers, and marketers across all teams worked to augment actual footage from the unreleased game to create the perfect narrative. To grab our gaming audience’s attention we added a deep-seeded easter egg within the creative and encouraged them to “crack the code”.

Execution

Our Chromebook campaign transformed Times Square into an animated portal to Cyberpunk with a dynamic 3D experience that merged the physical and digital worlds. Utilizing 6K digital screens with motion-sensing technology, the high-resolution animated scenes responded in real-time to the movements of passersby, drawing them into the game's neon-lit cybernetic universe. This interactive display, boasting 1600p resolution and 120 fps, not only highlighted the game's rich details but also demonstrated the Chromebook's prowess in cloud gaming. As the iconic Kiroshi eye animated in response to the audience, the lines between digital fantasy and urban reality were seamlessly blurred, showcasing an ambient, immersive advertising breakthrough in the heart of New York City.

Outcome

Our Chromebook Plus Cyberpunk OOH was unveiled to a live audience in Times Square, NYC and to millions more online. The social activation amassed over 239 million impressions and 66.9 million full video views.

The campaign's success was marked by a substantial increase in aided awareness and consideration for Chromebook Plus. These metrics not only reflect heightened engagement but also suggest a behavioral pivot, with the target gaming audience investing more time and interaction with the Chromebook brand, aligning with our objective to rekindle gaming passion among casual gamers.
