My intention for this spot was to find a unique identity for each of the environments.. I wanted to further the ‘hyper-real’, nature of the film with strong, bold looks, rich colours and a sense of filmic colour separation.
As the spot moves constantly between different settings without many cuts, I built complicated transitions between the different looks inside a series of mattes and dissolves allowing me to blend the different grades between each other seamlessly as the camera passes through windows and flies between interior and exterior locations.
In such a vibrant commercial, I had to experiment creatively to find consistency. I developed a cross-processed look using curves which I blended into a luma-key, strongly affecting the darker areas and rolled off towards the highlights. This gave a gentle richness to the shadows.
