Using only typography and voiceover, this palindrome-inspired video tells the story of a doctor who confesses to how hopeless he feels about his COPD patients and his ability to treat them. Just as the video plunges to the very breaking point of despair, there’s a turning point—both literally and metaphorically. The doctor repeats his words in reverse, and as they begin to take on a new meaning, hopelessness turns into hope. The mood of the piece shifts and so do the visuals. The dark typography and graphics are inverted. The lighter palette and reverse flow of type invoke the very change of heart our hero doctor is experiencing.

The video features kinetic typography that was hand drawn and scanned in to maintain an organic and raw feeling. The camera moves on an invisible road demarcated by words that are placed on different coordinates. When the camera begins to travel back on that same path, the same graphics and typography reappear and morph as the VO reads on. Creating a literally inverted palette on a reverse path was a challenge, but it was critical to capture the idea of someone have a complete change of mind. We wanted the viewer to feel that turning point and shift alongside our VO hero.
