Execution
CG has always been the busking capital of London. With our limited budget, we decided to use that heritage to enlist the help of big name bands to create a busking event extraordinaire; Superbusking was born.
We approached the homeless charity, Crisis, and worked with Universal music to create a suite of acts that would appeal to the broad audience of such a public space. We used UVA’s art installation as a giant backdrop and equalizer for some of the biggest new acts in music including The Feeling, Guillemots, Keane, Imelda May, Jonathan Ansell, Nick Harrison, Victoria Hart, VV Brown, King Blues, The Saturdays, and Bryn Christopher.
We decided to make the concerts impromptu in order to create talkability, anticipation and huge crowds.
Outcome
Over Christmas, music blogs and fan sites were buzzing with rumours of the performances. Superbusking generated £1.98 million in PR medial value with 47,300,000 'opportunities to see'.
During the events, we raised over £12,000 in cash from busking, plus a huge profile boost for Crisis that has resulted in subsequent donations. Due to the success of Superbusking, Covent Garden has decided to make it an annual event.
