OVERVIEW

Execution

To achieve this, a 30-second line dance called 'Dance With Us' was created. Students distributed tutorial videos and electronic invitations and flooded traditional and social media channels with their message. People across the globe were given the chance to learn the line dance and submit videos of themselves dancing.

And while the practicing went viral, the big event would be the synchronised line dance broadcast via live stream from THON. The goal was to get as many people to dance along with THON as possible. And the dream was to break $100m in donations.

Outcome

THON asked the world to dance, and the world said yes. Thousands of people learned the line dance and submitted videos of their moves. Nearly 200,000 people from over 180 countries tuned in via live stream and over 20,000 people united in 'Dance With Us' to battle paediatric cancer.

THON raised an all-time high $12.4m in 2013 and blew past the $100m donation mark. They generated over 132m media impressions, increased Facebook fans by 15% and prompted over 100,000 unique social conversations. The largest student-run philanthropy in the world was now truly a global phenomenon.
