Description

This film takes place at an old, run down house. We see elements of what would normally be a pretty everyday place, situation. A voice over describes the things you probably wouldn't notice with poetic, vivid detail everything we see, and what it means or feels like. You are made to feel more for the mundane. We make something epic out of the minutiae. The point: You see so much more when it is described to you. Especially when you’re blind. The commercial is for Accessible Media, a service that reads and describes TV shows for the blind so that they can follow along. It’s a service that is unique to Canada, a country that prides itself on making lives of the disadvantaged easier through accessibility in all areas, including visual media. What’s so important about the parallel between how the film describes things for those who can see, and how Accessible Media describes shows to the blind, is the type of attention to detail.

For the blind, everything, smell, feeling, colors and what they mean, all of it has to be described with words so that the audience who can’t see is painted a vivid picture in their imagination.
