Description

Devondale Fast Start – Sunshine Bubble

Breakfast drinks in Australia are predominantly soy-based drinks, a fact that is unbeknownst to many.

Devondale - Australia’s largest dairy - decided to launch a competitor made from real milk. We legally couldn't say anything about the negative health implications of soy, but we could draw attention to its other big draw back – the taste. Or more particularly, the scourge of ‘Soy Aftertaste Face’ – it destroys marriages, ruins relationships and in this spot damages a young girl’s fragile psyche forever.

Execution

The challenge with casting was to find characters that could not only be highly amusing when showing disgust or annoyance but also be likable within the context of a domestic dispute in which a child is – albeit humourously - emotionally abused. They had to feel like a real plausible family unit and demonstrate familiar traits that an audience could empathise with. Importantly, they needed to be capable of bringing a highly implausible story to life in a subtle and underplayed manner for the humour to work. Finding a child actor that could tug at the audience’s heart strings and perform in a subtle and believable manner, particularly when disappointed and upset proved difficult but we eventually succeeded. Exhaustive casting was carried out in both Sydney and Melbourne Australia to ensure that no stone was left unturned when seeking out the right people for these roles.
