Execution
Background: ANC stalwart and now also convicted fraudster, Schabir Shaik, had been in and out of jail since being sentenced to 15 years for fraud in 2005. Since his release (after serving only 2 years), he had been placed on medical parole, rearrested for alleged assault and even allowed to recoup at a luxury game lodge. Taking our cue from Die Burger’s payoff line ‘join the debate', we wanted to find out what our readers’ take was on one of the biggest news stories of the year. Solution: Posters with Schabir Shaiks face on it were tactically placed behind and in front of railings around town – a tongue in cheek way of illustrating him as a free and convicted man. Readers were encouraged to air their views on this hot topic by answering the question: "In or out?"
