Description

The objective of this film was to engage COPD patients (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) in the LIFE IS CALLING health campaign. COPD is one of the world’s biggest killers yet patients typically feel guilt and depression as the condition is commonly regarded as 'smoker’s chest' and therefore deemed self-induced. By creating a new story world and changing 'what's at stake' with a different protagonist (dog) the film succeeds in engaging patients in their health challenge and journey with COPD in a positive, fresh way. A universal story told without words so that it may be deployed in multiple markets with no language barriers. The end result being patients reaching for help, advice and treatment when they may otherwise simply give up on their health and life.

Execution

Dog’s Life is a 3D animation created in Cinema 4D and after effects. All the characters are rigged 3D meshes in a low polly style. The main stylistic challenge was getting the characters to feel real and alive while also looking like they could be made of paper to fit with the original “pop up book” brief from the client. The main technical challenges were the complex rigging of Harry the dog’s features and the “building” of the town in the opening shot where we wanted it to feel like paper folding itself into shapes.
