Handbag Dyetonator is the world’s first device that brands snatch thieves after they’ve committed the crime. Masked as an inconspicuous handbag accessory, it ignites a coloured dye pack and fires a smoke flare for approximately 4 minutes when a theft occurs, making it easier for the culprit to be apprehended. To activate the device, the victim simply needs to send a detonation code via SMS, from any mobile phone. Using the built-in GPS, women can also locate and retrieve their stolen handbags.

Handbag Dyetonator acts as a deterrent to snatch thieves. This is Ash Be Nimble’s way of going the extra mile to give some control back to Malaysian women, so they no longer need to feel hesitant to go outdoors or get active. But instead, lead their lives with confidence and peace of mind.

To kick off the campaign, we held educational talks about women’s safety at roadshows, events as well as in Ash Be Nimble stores. We engaged with thousands of Malaysian women and opened the discussion about the rampant issue of snatch theft and other crimes against women in Malaysia. There, we also called for their support to sign our petition for stricter laws on snatch thefts.

From March to April 2017, we distributed to a total of 500 units to 500 Malaysian women, in hopes to empower them to feel safer on the streets. Upon the success of the first phase of the campaign, Ash Be Nimble has further plans to make Handbag Dyetonator available to all Malaysian women.

The campaign has only just been launched for 1 month, but has already received overwhelming response. Over 500 active users signed up after the launch of Handbag Dyetonator and more are currently on the waiting list. Word of the device spread across social media, blogs and lifestyle sties, receiving the support of some of Malaysia’s most popular influencers. To top it all off, various government bodies even joined our cause and supported our petition for stricter laws.

With Handbag Dyetonator, we empowered women to feel safer on the roads, especially when walking alone. They no longer need to feel afraid or hesitant to go outdoors or get active. Now, they can live their life as they wish, without hindrance and with absolute confidence.

But most importantly, we made an invisible crime, visible to the world.
