Background

eBay is home to millions of pre-owned and vintage fashions but lacked high-end fashion credentials.

And with fast fashion contributing to 92 million tons of textile waste each year, the new generations are choosing to shop secondhand.

The challenge was, how could we turn eBay into a go-to fashion destination and promote sustainability?

Strategy

We circled back and reviewed over 100 years of the Vogue archives and discovered that almost everything from decades past could be sourced on eBay, today.

Uncovering this authentic, symbiotic relationship inspired ‘eBay in Vogue’.

‘eBay in Vogue’ was designed to put eBay in the middle of 3 of fashion’s biggest tentpole moments:

1. It started with the key fall fashion season, where top models and fashion influencers donned the latest looks in pre-owned and vintage, sourced from eBay—a natural way to integrate pre-owned and vintage into the latest looks of the season.

2. Then, at the biggest fashion event of the year, The Met Gala, eBay was center stage. In collaboration with trend setting rapper, Ice Spice, viewers could shop her look when she walked the red carpet, in the first of its kind ecommerce integration.

3. Finally, for Fashion Week we invited Twiggy, supermodel from the 60s, back for the October issue of Vogue, to recreate her famous shot from 1967 with the same vintage accessories found on eBay. She then made the fashion headlines when she walked the red carpet to launch fashion week, in her recreated eBay look.
