Background
The aim is to show the best red carpets moments of Venice Film Festival over the years.
There are stars that will never fade away. There are moments that will last forever. A flash moment, a glamourous march, an hymn to the best Venice film festival red carpets through the years.
We have the mission to capture those feelings, sounds and colors recalling different years and stars.
Execution
The film switches back and forth from black&white photography to technicolor, but it also flips from widescreen 16:9 images and smaller 4:3 compositions.
This change in the aspect ratio was chosen to resemble the evolution of the formats over time.
For black&white we used an authentic old ARRI camera with BW Kodak film.
The 4:3 sequences were shot with lenses of the time and in native 4:3, no post production cutting down the images.
Outcome
The spot was acclaimed by newspapers and audience for its original idea and for the overall work of recreating moments from famous photos and cinejournal without using any vfx to achive the goal.
The spot went on air on RAI (the Italian public broadcast television) reaching a huge audience in a few days. The spot was used also as the opening title sequence for the festival ceremony and during all the screening movies of the festival days.
