Description
In order to bring the core benefits of the new EQ brand to life, we created a simple yet effective way to reduce the amount of unnecessary data internet users load while they browse.
Meet the first browser extension that helps you effortlessly reduce your digital carbon footprint.
The free EQ Mode browser plugin is a one-click solution: By combining intelligent design and technology elements, it prevents the default downloading of data, such as images and videos which are often irrelevant to the user.
Not only does the plugin empower users to move through the web with more sustainability, it also creates a community around the brand, encouraging more people to make the switch.
Users see the CO2 emission that they would cause for every image before loading and can decide if they want to load the imagery anyway. In addition they can track their overall impact and CO2 saved
Execution
Within just a week of development and with the use of a specially created script running on a cloud server we found a way to request the size of imagery of websites from the server their hosted on instead of loading the file itself.
The plugin then replaces all images and videos with a very low file sized „placeholder image“, displaying the amount of CO2 saved by not loading the original image.
Users have the option of loading the blocked content anyway by clicking on the placeholder image if relevant to them. In this case the original image is inserted and the CO2 value is then subtracted from the overall user statistics.
To increase a feeling of community, plugin users can share their personal achievements with their friends on the social platforms and are able to keep track of the amount of CO2 collectively saved by all users.
Outcome
Since the plugin was made available only a few days ago and is awaiting approval for a press realease we do not have results on reach and engagement yet. Without any media spend or press yet, the user base is currently growing by arround 100 users pay day already.
