Description
Their ambition was to beat the current record for the largest existing collaborative art project(14,000 pieces). So, the challenge was to engage the nations children, and get them excited about art. As well as setting records, they had to impress a pretty tough audience, The Queen.
Execution
We named the project Face Britain, gave it a friendly logo, and a posh identity. We created promotional and fund-raising applications for a series of national activities leading up to unveiling the largest online gallery in the world.
Outcome
Schools across Britain uploaded self portraits every day for six months resulting in 230,199 portraits being displayed as a giant projection onto Buckingham Palace and smashing the previously held record. The result was national press coverage and a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The celebrity auction brought in over £200,000 and over £2.5 million ‘in-kind’ donations helped the project meet it’s goal. Merchandise from the portraits is still selling online, and every self portrait has been archived in the British Library to become a part of history.
