Background

Fearless Walk. The app that gets in the way of violence against women.

Every 30 seconds, a woman is a victim of violence in Brazil.

Half of these cases occur on the streets.

Currently, about 1 in 3 Brazilian women have already suffered or are suffering harassment on the streets, whether on the way home, work or leisure time. With this situation in mind, the objective was clear, to create a tool capable of truly helping these women, enabling others to be informed of what was happening and nearby authorities able to intervene and help.

Idea

TIM, the mobile network covering every corner of Brazil decided to use something every woman carries, to protect them. Fearless Walk. An App designed to get in the way of violence.

Fearless Walk uses geolocation, real-time data, user collaboration and artificial intelligence to protect women.

A project in partnership between TIM Brazil and the Mulheres Positivas app who developed a collaborative map (like the GPS) of the heat of harassment in cities, aiming at bringing more security to the route of women in their day by day with their reports about the situation on the streets. The map is located in a privileged tab of the Mulheres Positivas app.

Strategy

The map was developed and implemented, and the target audience was women all around Brazil. The approach used throughout the campaign was “make the roads safer” and the call to action was encouraging women to download the app and make a difference in other women’s daily life.

Execution

Analyzing a 10-year database of violence against women from multiple sources

And taking several factors into consideration, an AI was able to map out the most dangerous streets and worst moments for women to walk alone in cities.

In the App, they could not only see the danger on their route and change it…But also connect with other women crossing the same path, share their location by using a safe word their smartphone could pick at anytime.

And they can collaborate freely in the app, improving its accuracy constantly. All data is shared with authorities to keep them updated.

Launch was during Rock in Rio Festival, an event that gathers almost 1 million people in 7 days.

Outcome

On the first week, over 300 thousand woman signed on the App.

Reach: 1 million people in 7 days.

Achievement against business targets: 7 thousand interactions and reports on the app. And best of all no major violence against women case was registered by the authorities during the event.
