Description

We wanted a fun and interactive way to get the patrons at a bar to know about FINNEGANS and their mission. So we created the first interactive Happy Hour where when you bought a FINNEGANS, you immediately contributed to filling local food shelves. Borrowing from the gaming mentality and adding the immediate gratification of seeing food shelfs populate on video screens throughout the bar made it more compelling to watch FINNEGANS reach their goal.

As if drinking beer wasn't reward enough, we also rewarded the entire bar for completing the filling of the shelf with an amazing video of Riverdancing squirrels.

Execution

Constructed with open-source technologies and a little help from an API built by the guys at Kegbot. How it works is the Kegbot flow meter is attached to the FINNEGANS tap/taps at any bar and that gives the API access to the number of pints being poured from the specific keg. With that in mind, we built the server-side script to continually ping the api for specific tap results during the Happy Hour time period. The UI would then update the shelf every 3 seconds with the correct amount of food donated. We also took it a step further to include bottles of FINNEGANS, so we added a small web app so that bartenders could hit a button every time they served one. We also had it give status updates to all of FINNEGANS followers on Facebook and Twitter.

Outcome

We reached 200% of our goal and we definitely impacted the patrons around us to switch to purchasing FINNEGANS once they realized the charity component.
