We noticed young girls’ behaviour on Instagram. They were seeking self-validation by tagging selfies with dozens of hashtags like #amipretty and #findmebeautiful. The problem was that parents, teachers and youth leaders weren’t aware of this. We stuck closely to the familiar layout of Instagram and used a real depiction of hashtag use. When seen in isolation like this, it highlights the shocking truth of girls’ behaviour online. We directed people to the Dove Self Esteem Project where they could find out how to help and educate girls they know and look after.
