To kick off this partnership, we created an immersive microsite, launching fans into space through our Space Hunt experience: a cosmic environment that invited exploration and discovery of science and film content.
Following the premier, we asked fans to help us capture our story on Earth by contributing their own content to a modern Time Capsule.
Finally, to preserve humanity for all time, the content was crafted into an original documentary, EMIC, curated by Mr. Nolan and featuring a track from Jean Michel Jarre and M83. The film was released exclusively on Google Play alongside the digital release of Interstellar.
Outcome
The Interstellar, Google Play partnership created the opportunity for fans to think about something bigger than a movie: the future of humankind.
And they responded in a big way.
Not only did we have over one million visits to our site in the first three months - putting us in the top 5% of the industry - we received over 7000 entries to our Time Capsule. With an average visit length 4x the industry average, we saw fans were deeply engaged with the experience.
