Globally, women are paid up to 36% less than men. This spot features a young girl trying to make sense of this statistic.

The spot starts with a strange claim from the young girl. She tells us she wishes she had chest hair — thick manly chest hair. And manly hair on her back and her shoulders. Finally we realise the logic behind her wish, as she says “Then maybe I might be able to earn a man’s salary one day, which is up to 36% more than a woman’s”.

The little girl attributes the gender pay gap to all the “weird extra hair” saying she can’t think of any other reason.

A female VO then reinforces that there is no logical reason why women and men shouldn’t earn equal pay. The audience is invited to find out more about ANZ Bank’s Equal Future initiatives.
