Description

As content streaming began to expand heavily to mobile devices, HBO and our company partnered to bring to market HBO GO, a suite of applications that would allow users access to an extensive library of acclaimed HBO content from their mobile devices. The HBO GO app harnesses the vibrant content of HBO to deliver a truly unique and seamless digital experience on your computer, iPad, iPhone, Android Phone, Roku Streaming Player, Samsung Smart TV and Xbox 360. The HBO GO app leverages HBO’s entire library of award-winning and acclaimed original programming, as well as hit theatrical films. The app provides HBO subscribers with instant access to every episode of every season of the best and most popular HBO series.

The main interface of the HBO GO app features a stunning mosaic-like grid of captivating images from various HBO programs. The app allows users to begin watching the full-length content from within the initial experience, minimising click through and maximizing usability across the various devices. The display allows users to both view the entire breadth of content and to easily immerse themselves in their desired selection. The app is free of charge and available to HBO subscribers through a participating television provider.

HBO GO for iPad, iPhone and Android Phone launched in April 2011, at a time when people were starting to think differently about how they consumed television and in what capacity. The development of HBO GO indicates a significant investment by HBO in embracing changing technology and evolving the behaviours of their subscribers. HBO GO allowed the network to better demonstrate value to their subscribers by providing them with the means to access HBO wherever and whenever they want, giving them complete control of their viewing experience.

Upon launch, the HBO GO mobile app made its way to the top-ranked free app in Apple’s App Store on its first day of release and received 1m downloads within its first week and 3m downloads within the first month of its release. HBO GO serves as one of the most successful TV everywhere solutions strengthened HBO’s digital business. As of November 2011, the HBO GO app has been downloaded 6m times and has logged 98m streams.
