Execution
A daughter informs her father she’d like to join the Navy. His immediate (and if you’re Singaporean, familiar) response, “Are you crazy?”
We go on to see why he’d think that. The demanding schedule, rigorous physical training, repetitive drills and simulations, the months away from home and loved ones, and the inherent risks that come with the job. Realities that we have to confront head on.
Because it pivots to why this career choice may not be so insensible after all – the Navy must go to crazy lengths to defend Singapore’s safety and sovereignty – after all, isn’t it crazier to leave the world’s most vulnerable island nation defenceless in the water?
It’s a film that celebrates hardship because the Navy’s purpose can only be served by those with guts, grit and heart.
