OVERVIEW

Description

As a new brand, we had the chance to work on its branding from the very start, on a clean slate. For the name, we proposed “K+”. The letter “K” is derived from Kinetic, the name of the company curating the space. The “K” is then paired with a plus sign to signify collaboration.

In application, when “K+” is placed side by side with a partner’s name/logo, it clearly spells a joint effort. The same thoughtfulness is reflected in the typography of the K+ logo which consists of a varying element to better complement the individual styles of varied partners.

Execution

Logo

We created a logo that can change to best complement varied collaborators. (See answers above.)

Collaterals

Rather than print the logo directly on collaterals, we printed coloured tags bearing the K+ logo. We then attached these using rivets. This coming together of different elements is meant to parallel the coming together of K+ and its collaborators.

Spatial design

The challenge is to meet the requirements of diverse collaborators and showcase their works in the best light.

> K+ Gallery: We used an open-plan layout with no permanent structures so we can change and adapt the space.

> K+ Retail: Built to best present the merchandise and catch shoppers’ attention with modular structures like mix-and-match shelves and racks.

> K+ Workshop: As classes do not take place every day, this was housed within a K+ Retail shop, creating a lively mixed-use environment with more footfall for both retail and workshop.

Outcome

In its curation of the uncommon, be it art or retail or artisanal experiences, K+ has been well-received by both the press as well as consumers. It has been featured extensively in the newspapers, and on lifestyle and design websites and blogs.

The brand has presented over 14 collaborators thus far, with more in the pipe-line, and has expanded from one space to three in the short span of one year. It will soon be opening its latest space — its biggest yet — a multi-concept store that will further cement its reputation as a must-visit for art and design aficionados, and discerning shoppers too.
