Execution

Creating Kenneth meant we could keep the product at the heart of the activity and conversation. Kenneth, which looked like your typical vending machine was rigged with cameras, microphones and a comedian who watched from an external location. The comedian, playing the role of Kenneth, waited for the prefect time and caught commuters off guard, giving them a charming, funny and personalised interaction whilst their coffee vended. From instructing yoga poses to rapping for a busker to leading a group flash mob dance, Kenneth brought a more than a smile to all who interacted with him.

As well as the camera in Kenneth, we also had hidden cameras around Soho Square, which enabled us to capture the unique, funny interactions and reactions.

Outcome

During the day, Kenneth served over 1,000 cups of coffee to thirsty members of the public. More than 54,000 people have viewed the video on You Tube and Kenneth has featured on over 100 individual websites. Footage of the day has been used extensively in trade presentations and events. Kenneth has so far helped sell Kenco Millicano to 4 major vending and catering accounts, by convincing buyers about the delicious, full-bodied taste of the coffee. He’s also helped to establish Kraft’s coffee brands in a sector that has traditionally been dominated by Nescafe.
