VELUX had a challenge: Their specialty — roof windows— is a product that inherently needs to be viewed in a personalized context. How can you enable a customer to experience not just what the addition to their home or office may look like, but what it would feel like and the look and effect the resulting light will have?
VELUX needed to create a tool to visualize their products in a setting personalized for customers — all while making the solution scaleable enough to apply to multiple markets and architectural styles. The MyDaylight app was created with the intent to allow customer to experience the look and effect of daylight in their own home, simply by using their mobile devices. The objective was to create a tool that was easy to use but realistic and accurate, that ould serve as a marketing tool, communication platform and sales/lead generator.
Execution
The concept of the app was inspired by an agency resource report created for VELUX. Subsequently, a Rumble( Fjord designed method) workshop was held with the stakeholders to refine the idea, and then the concept was tested as a proof of concept in the French market. Once proven, the
visual app design and UX were overhauled before being developed using an agile development methodology. VELUX was always very involved, and the app was a product of close collaboration and was truly co-created. From the first rumble to the global roll-out
of the app (to 28 markets), approximately two years elapsed.
Given the particularly innovative nature of the project, we needed to envision new solutions and create algorithms — which didn't previously exist — in order to cut holes in 3D model geometry. The style of the app and its contents are clean and modern, and the design
really helps users identify with the space and see the possibilities in furnishing and adding roof windows to their space.
The market response from VELUX installers has been overwhelmingly positive, and since its launch, installers have used and praised the MyDaylight app as a way of effectively inspiring customers.
