Description
The client for this 3-day live event was the City of Berlin on direct request by the senate of Berlin and its mayor Mr. Wowereit. For the realization of this project the city was represented by its official cultural institution Kulturprojekte Berlin GmbH, a company 100% owned by the City of Berlin. On the last day of the 3-day event the senate of Berlin and the government of the Federal Republic of Germany organized a joint public event at the Brandenburg Gate as a climax to the 3-day festivities.
Execution
The LICHTGRENZE light installation is made out of 8000 individual balloon lights, 340cm high and distributed with 250cm distances along the line. Each balloon light is made out of 45 specifically produced parts. Those include a water filled foot with batteries, a carbon fiber pole, a plastic funnel on top with integrated white LEDs and a ballloon mounting and release mechanism. This mechanism holds a 60cm latex balloon filled with helium which can be released by pulling a string. The LICHTGRENZE balloon lights can be broken down into 4 parts for easy transport and quick setup. An integrated power converter and rechargeable battery allow for direct power connection or 16 hours of independent operation.
