Description

Some break-ups can be tough – really tough. But with Orbit’s first US effort building off of the globally successful “Break Up” campaign, we see that breaking up is a lot easier to do when you’re armed with Orbit. Featuring Sarah Silverman and a lovable but clingy cup of coffee, we watch as our heroine chews Orbit in order to break off a once steamy and hot relationship – a one-night (er, morning) stand with her cup of joe. By chewing a piece of Orbit, she’s able to fend off lingering food, leaving her with that “just brushed clean” feeling. Because, let’s face it, some relationships weren’t meant to last forever.

Execution

Bringing a walking, talking coffee cup to life - in an uber-realistic way – is a bit harder than it looks.

While Sarah Silverman was on set talking to a fake, placeholder, paper coffee cup, The production and its animation and 3-D teams were already hard at work behind the scenes, doing everything from fine–tuning our character’s blocking to refining the lip sync of our character (based on our voice talent’s audio takes). From there, we collaborated with them to give him believable – yet subtle – hand and feet motions in an effort to make him feel as real as possible. After several rounds of rendering and shadow work (to bring out that realism), we were more than happy with the result – a slightly annoying coffee cup that “lingered” just a bit too long.

Luckily, Sarah had her Orbit gum handy and swiftly took care of our little problem.
