Description
The ambition was to completely reinvent Mrs Claus with kick-ass attitude, style and warmth. To make her chic, empowered and relatable to women today. To reimagine the clothes she’d wear, the car she’d drive (an Aston?) and the role she’d have at Christmas. In essence, to take boring old Mrs C and make her a bloody cool heroine.
To not just create a film, but a famous character - a modern icon of Christmas. To shape, cast and create this character. A character that will live on in years to come - and be brought to life above and beyond the film.
Execution
The development of the film took around five months, including really nailing down the story, casting, and making sure every detail was right. The film was shot over six days in London and Iceland. The scale was massive and the challenges were endless, which makes the result that much more rewarding.
Outcome
The film reached well over ten million people across multiple online platforms. It was written up about in almost every major UK publication as the top Christmas advertisement . Marks & Spencer redefined what it means to make a Christmas ad by creating a large-scale epic Christmas story.
