Somewhere along the way, it’s become the norm to judge women based on their appearance – using their beauty against them. And, regardless of whether it’s intentional or not, women feel belittled. Dove created an online campaign with a hero film cast with a host of incredible real women who had overcome their own critics in order to inspire and empower others to stand up for themselves. The beginning of the film focuses on the critics, and the types of comments each woman received; “He said I was too fat,” “She said I didn’t dress for my age,” “They said I was boyish and ugly.” Through fast paced editing, the voices of the critics reach a crescendo, until the women finally take a stand and speak for themselves. No longer is it about what others said – it’s what they say that matters. My Beauty, My Say.
