Description
On Valentine’s Day, many music lovers face a problem – that their loved one often forces upon them ‘cute’ and ‘romantic’ songs. But as New Zealand’s original rock station, Radio Hauraki thought Valentine’s Day was no excuse to listen to shit music.
So we created a unique streaming podcast for the day for our listeners, to help them keep the peace with their loved ones as well as their eardrums. When listened to through headphones, typically cheesy, romantic songs played from one earphone; while the best that Hauraki had to offer played through the other. Leading to quality time together, songs apart.
Execution
The unique podcast medium allowed us to play with headphone technology, meaning we could stream two separate audio files simultaneously through alternate speakers.
The podcast itself could be streamed from the Hauraki website, meaning Hauraki listeners could grab their loved one and listen to it from either their computer or mobile. Both radio spots and plugs from Hauraki radio hosts led listeners to the page in the week leading to Valentine’s Day, which could then be shared easily through social media.
Outcome
Through this podcast we helped reinforce Hauraki’s stance as an irreverent station that lives and breathes quality music – and provided a tangible, humourous way for our audience to embody this Hauraki spirit for themselves. We also helped bring more people to the Hauraki website itself, and drew attention to the online radio streaming service, making a larger number of people aware of the ability to stream Hauraki radio from the website.
