Description

“The Doctor Will See You Now” experience launched at the ENDO 2017 conference, transforming the environment into a virtual, life-size physician’s office with the goal of bringing to light significant symptoms and the dire consequences of uncontrolled hypoparathyroidism. By simulating a real exam with real patients with hypoparathyroidism, endocrinologists were able to better identify the clues their patients were giving them.

In this immersive environment, endocrinologists experienced a patient type they do not frequently see, giving them much needed insight into the manifestations of uncontrolled hypoparathyroidism. Using gesture-based technology, endocrinologists were able to select a patient, listen to patients describe their symptoms in their own words, review lab work, and ultimately test their clinical decision-making.

Execution

Constructed in approximately 3 months, “The Doctor Will See You Now” IHR experience was incredibly immersive and realistic thanks to data and insights gathered through our targeted research efforts. Patients’ priorities and pain points were woven throughout dialogue in the experience, bringing an extra level of believability to an already life-like environment on the convention floor. Physicians were required to listen to patients describe their condition, as well as order and examine labs, prior to making treatment decisions. This compelled physicians to consider factors that they would typically dismiss or ignore.

Outcome

Foot traffic at the original convention booth where “The Doctor Will See You Now” experience was launched indicated an initially strong and positive response. Physicians found real value in the realistic nature of the experience, which helped increase their comfort and confidence in tackling the challenge of unmanaged hypoparathyroidism. By the convention’s end, dozens of attendees had engaged with the experience. Overall reception was so positive that the experience was subsequently transformed into a personal promotion tool for sales representatives to use with endocrinologists during sales calls. This tool has since become one of the cornerstones of a successful sales call.
