Description
We created a VR film that featured iconic moments in NHL history when winning players were first presented with the Stanley Cup Trophy. In the film we also recreated the pomp and circumstance of when the trophy is presented - carried out to center ice by "The Keeper of the Cup" and set on a pedestal, where players can then pick it up.
We staged an activation outside a Pittsburgh Penguins home game and invited fans to the "Stanley Cup Virtual reality experience." Fans came into the space 4 at a time and viewed the film with VR headsets.
While they were viewing the film, we placed the actual Stanley Cup Trophy on a pedestal in front of them, so when they removed their goggles they would be surprised with the actual trophy and we would capture their genuine emotions.
We then published an online film of the fan experience.
Execution
We created and edited a VR experience using archival NHL footage as well as employing a live-action production to incorporate the "presentation" of the trophy.
We then built a pop-up "Stanley Cup Virtual reality Experience" that fans could attend before and after a single NHL home game in Pittsburgh.
Fans could register ahead of time or wait in line on the day. We brought nearly three hundred fans through the highly personalized experience over the course of several hours.
Outcome
The actual activation was booked to capacity from start to finish on the single day we were on site in Pittsburgh.
The Facebook video received over 100,000 views.
The activation and accompanying film earned coverage from 234 media outlets with a potential audience of 90 million people.
